Research Interests

Cancer biology, genomics, functional genomics, molecular diagnostics and molecular epidemiology

 

I am a molecular biologist of more than 18 years standing and have established a well organized molecular oncology laboratory to undertake cutting edge research in cellular, molecular, cytogenetic, genomic and functional genomic aspects of cancer. My group has made outstanding contributions in understanding the molecular mechanisms and pathobiology of tobacco induced cancers of prime importance in India: oral and esophageal cancer. Our work on identification of genetic and molecular alterations in these cancers and their association with dietary and environmental risk factors led to identification of candidate molecular markers for these malignancies.

 

 

Significant Research Contributions

Ø            Establishment of experimental model for oral cancer.

Ø            Designed novel gene therapy strategies for oral cancer.

Ø            Identification of novel differentially expressed genes in oral and esophageal cancer.

Ø            Identification of molecular markers for early diagnosis of oral and esophageal cancer.

Ø            Developed immunodiagnostic assay for serological analysis of p53.

Ø            Understanding molecular basis of multidrug resistance and designing liposomal drug formulations for its circumvention.
